Dream
The bright moonlight allowed for a clear scope of my surroundings. Air was crisp and the atmosphere was void of any sound with the exception of waves mildly rolling onto shore. I had been walking on the sand right along the water's edge. There was a chain-link fence in the distance to my left, the water on my right. The further I walked, the closer the fence came to the water, narrowing the sandy beach to nothing but a small strip of land too thin to pass through.
As I was about to turn around, I noticed a fox-like pomeranian laying on the sand, half way in the water. He was cold, panting, and sick. I picked him up and carried him in my arms. He needed immediate attention. I turned my head down towards my arms to get a good look at him but instead found I was holding a piece of white paper approximately twelve inches in width and eighteen inches in height. It was a colorfully illustrated gouache painting of the dog.
I pulled the illustration in closer to take a look at the details. The little dog was laid out on his back, all limbs stretched out. His body had been discected and skin of his torso folded back exposing his organs. I recognized a heart and esophagus but couldn't make out the other organs as they were quite unusual. Most of his major organs were failing. He was still alive despite the autopsy and his critical condition . However he would require much care and love.
In a fraction of a second, it seemed time flashed forward and I had a memory of taking the pup in to see the vet. I was still standing in the same place on the same night holding the image of the autopsy the veterinarian gave me. It was like being in the present and having a past memory of the future.
