The Legend of La Llorona
There are many folktales of La Llorona, almost too many to count. Some stories claim she drowned her children when her husband left her for someone else. Another tale has it that her children accidentally drowned when she left them unattended to be with her lover.
All legends agree on one thing: her soul has been lost since that fateful day and now she wanders up and down the Rio Grande throughout the southwest. La Llorona's tears fill the mighty river with peaceful waters that rage as they empty into the ocean.
Those that claimed to have seen her, describe a beautiful flowing dress and hair smooth as silk. La Llorona causes no harm, but her wailing cries are haunting as she longs for her salvation and for her children.
